the passion
Monday, April 9th, 2007Happy easter/Pesach
this easter weekend gets a few spacial touches- if one lives in a christian country. for the jews and the muslims among my dear readers- its the time when the story of the Cassion of the Phrist is being told. on friday i was playing a gig in a Catholic church, and i had to accompany with cello solo stuff the story of the passion. it was really hilarious that the little jewish boy was doing the sound track to this extremely anti-Semitic story. the most embarrassing moment happened after the musical bit. i was standing right on the alter in front of 300 people, and the whole ceremony is about kneeling and praying to the christ. i can tell you, that was very unpleasant for the little jewish boy.
on Saturday i went to an easter concert with yet another version of the Passion. this was the most boring concert i have ever been too. it was 2 hours and 10 minutes of true suffering. the composers name is Kaiser- just in case you want to know what not to do. the orchestra was one of the best in the early music scene- Les Talents Lyriques, with Christophe Rousset, but choosing to play bad music boringly is really too much. not every fart that ever composed is performance worthy.
